Essential Oil Properties The following information is in no way intended or should be used as a replacement for medical treatment or advice from your professional physician. Consult your physician prior to use of most essential oils to avoid reaction with any current medications or existing health problems. Cedarwood is extracted from the wood of the tree and has a pleasant, refreshing, woody smell. It has a an effect that helps with stress and poor concentration. Cedarwood should be avoided during pregnancy. Clary Sage can be used for treating exhaustion and may be applied as massage oil or in the bath. It has a euphoric effect, which makes it good for phobias, depression and listlessness. Do not use during pregnancy. Eucalyptus oil is extracted from the twigs and leaves of the Australian gum tree. It has a distinctive aroma that instantly clears the head and has been used in countless cold & cough remedies. Also a good antiseptic & soothes muscles. Frankincense oil is extracted from the gum of a North African tree. It is useful in dealing with symptoms of distress and panic. It helps restore a normal breathing rate and calms nervousness. Ginger oil is extracted from the root of a plant growing in the Caribbean, Africa, India and Japan. It has a warm and spicy smell, is stimulating and is also an antiseptic. Lavender - Brings health and harmony to body and mind. This uplifting, flowery aroma alleviates stress, anxiety and depression. It has been used for insomnia, headaches and migraines. A natural antiseptic and anti-inflammatory; eases colds, flu, sinusitis, and throat infections if used in inhalations or vaporizers. Lavender may also be used as a skin balancing agent. It regenerates, soothes acne, eczema, dandruff, hair loss, sunburn, insect bites and relieves athlete's foot. Since lavender promotes cell growth, it is effective for burns and stretch marks, helping to minimize scarring. Use in a compress, massage or bath to ease muscle aches, pains and sprains. Lemongrass is extracted from a wild grass. The fragrance is a warm, citrus smell. It will boost circulation and control excessive perspiration. Lemongrass oil is an effective insect repellent when diluted in a carrier oil and applied to the skin. Myrrh
oil is derived from the resin of a tree native to the Middle East. It has a
rich, spicy smell and is good for treating skin problems and relieving stress.
Myrrh should never be used during pregnancy. Patchouli
Oil is extracted from the leaves and shoots of an Indian herb similar to
lavender. Patchouli oil is antiseptic and anti-inflammatory and is therefore
good for treating cracked skin, burns and scalp problems. Great for treating
tension. Peppermint - Promoting physical and emotional well being. A refreshing and uplifting aroma that is also a good insect repellant. Helpful for headaches and migraines, colds, asthma and bronchitis; reduces mucus and relieves coughs when used in inhalations or baths. Peppermint will also soothe itchy skin, but must be diluted. Relieves heartburn, indigestion, nausea and bad breath. Rosemary oil is extracted from the flower tops and leaves of the herb. It has a fresh, woody scent that is stimulating for both body and mind. Good for lethargy and poor concentration. Assists in alleviating breathing problems and muscular aches. Do not use during pregnancy or if suffering from epilepsy. Sandlewood - Offers a soothing and calming effect. This pleasant, woody smell is excellent for therapeutic use. Relaxing and assists in relieving anxiety, depression and tension. Relieves coughs, sore throats; soothes bronchitis and asthma. Sandalwood promotes sleep, softens dry skin, soothes nausea and heartburn. Also helps dandruff and eczema and may help reduce sunburn irritation, hives and diaper rash. Used in compresses, baths, inhalations, or massage. Tea Tree - A very strong antiseptic and is hypo-allergenic. May also be used against some bacterial, viral and fungal conditions. The aroma is a good insect repellant. Use in inhalations, vaporizers or compresses to help fight colds. Tea Tree oil is effective against rashes, sunburn and promotes healing while guarding from infection. Relieves nail bed infections and athlete's foot. Ylang Ylang means "flower of flowers" and is extracted from the flowers of tropical trees. It has a strong, sweet, sensuous floral smell. Ylang Ylang is used for relaxation and aids in emotional unrest.
