History and Meaning of Feng Shui
History Of Feng Shui
Feng Shui (pronounced "fung shway"), is at least 5,000
years old. When China was under imperial rule, feng shui was a secret,
known only to a handful of astronomers and scientists commissioned with
maintaining the health, wealth, and power of the court. Imperial palaces
and cities were planned according to feng shui, which became a principle of
classical Chinese architecture. Beining's forbidden City is a
wonderful example of the ancient use of Feng Shui.. A spectacular complex of
palaces, administrative buildings, and temples arranged around a series of
courtyards, the Forbidden City was the capital of China during the Mine and
Qing dynasties.
Meaning Of Feng Shui Feng Shui (pronounced "fung shway"), means "wind and
water" in Chinese. Feng shui seeks to promote prosperity, good
health, and general well being by examining how energy, qi, (pronounced
"chee") flows through a particular room, house, building, or garden.
Feng Shui uses the balance of Yin and Yang energies and the Chinese believe
everything is in a constant state of change between the 5 elements (Wood,
Fire, Earth, Metal and Water) or forces of nature called "wu-xing."
It can be a creative and productive relationship; woods fuels fire, fire burns
to ash or earth; earth give mineral or metal; when heated, metal flows like
water; and water nourishes wood. In the destructive and/or negative
relationship: wood takes nutrients from the earth; earth pollutes or absorbs
water; water kills fire; fire melt metal and metal chops wood.
Basic Principles Of Feng Shui
For centuries, people have been using the power of
Feng Shui to improve health, multiply riches, and lead happier, more
fulfilling lives. Because everyone's life circumstance is different,
it is always best to seek the guidance of an experienced Feng Shui
practitioner. There are, however, numerous basic principles that can be
applied to any situation.
Space clearing is the first and most important
Feng Shui technique. By clearing out all of the old, negative or
chaotic energy in a space, it will bring positive and free flowing energy.
This in turn, will create positive thinking, bring energy, and health. By combining space clearing with the
elimination of unnecessary clutter and a commitment to keeping your space as
clean and functional as possible, we will begin to make real and lasting
changes in our lives. Remember, space clearing should be a gradual
change and is not intended to create stress. In other words, take your
time as you plan on things that you should keep and things that you should
give to charity to discard to the trash can.
Feng Shui Tips For The Home
1. Water is used to activate or slow down Ch’i in a room, being highly
beneficial for health, wealth and relationships. Placing a tabletop
fountain in your home or office is the easiest way to add Ch’i into
you life and will significantly enhance the desires you are working for.
They can have an amazing effect on your wealth, romance and general
well-being. Fountains are especially recommended for homes that
have central heating because they increase the humidity, helping to
decrease static electricity, dust and other pollutants in the air.
The moving water of a fountain will also increase the negative ion count
in the air, which will create a healthier environment. Too many
positive ions can result in depression and sickness.
2. Open a bedroom window at least once a day for 20 minutes to allow fresh chi to
flow through the room. This will eliminate stale chi, enhance
sleep and good health, allowing good fortune into your life.
3. The bed should have a solid wall behind it. A solid wall will help to
enhance a deeper sleep, allowing better concentration in your work.
4. Do not place mirrors opposite the bed on the side of the bed as it could
attract a third party into the relationship.
5. Televisions should not be used in the bedroom. If so, place a cover over the
television when not in use.
6. Do not position the stove in your kitchen opposite the refrigerator, washing
machine, wash basin or toilet. It can cause disagreements among the
family.
7. A fish tank can be good if placed correctly. It not, it can cause
lawsuits, bankruptcy, work pressures and problems.
